How to Play Hangman 1v1

Hangman 1v1 is a free, real-time multiplayer geography game. Both players get the same hidden country or capital and race to guess its letters. Reveal the word with the fewest wrong letters - and the fastest time - to win the round. No account or download needed: just create a room, share the link, and start playing.

Rules & Scoring

Both players see the same hidden word and guess one letter at a time.

The first player to fully reveal the word wins the round.

You get 6 wrong letters per word. Hit the limit and you are out of the round.

If both solve it, the fewest wrong letters and fastest time wins. Choose Countries or Capitals!

Two Ways to Play: Countries and Capitals

Pick the challenge that suits you. In Countries mode you guess the hidden name of a nation - from easy ones like France, Brazil and Japan to trickier picks like Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan or Eswatini. In Capitals mode the country is shown as a clue and you race to spell its capital city, such as Paris, Tokyo, Canberra or Nairobi. Five difficulty levels, from Beginner to Expert, keep every duel fair - so beginners and geography experts can both find a good match.

Tips to Win at Geography Hangman

  • Open with the most common vowels - E and A first, then I and O - to reveal the shape of the word fast.
  • Follow up with frequent consonants like R, S, T, N and L before you risk rarer letters such as Q, X or Z.
  • In Capitals mode, lean on the country clue - if you recognise the nation, you often already know its capital.
  • Count the blanks and watch for repeated letters and common endings like -land, -stan or -ia.
  • You only get six wrong guesses before the hangman is complete, so spend them carefully.
  • Close rounds are decided by fewer mistakes and the faster time - solve quickly to edge out your rival.
