How to Play Name the Countries

Choose a continent or go for the whole world. The map starts empty: type a country name and, if it belongs to the region, it lights up in green and scores points. Small countries score more than big ones, a run of correct answers builds a streak multiplier up to ×3, and a hint shows you the first letter of the biggest country you are missing. When the clock runs out, every country you missed is revealed in red.

How do you play Name the Countries?

Pick a region, press play and start typing country names. Every correct answer fills in that country on the map. Try to name them all before the timer runs out - or switch to Zen mode and take your time.

How many countries are there in the world?

The world quiz uses 195 countries: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. Kosovo, Taiwan and a few other places are accepted as bonus answers but do not count toward the total.

Which spellings are accepted?

Accents, capital letters and punctuation do not matter, and common alternatives such as Holland, Burma, Czechia, Ivory Coast or USA are all accepted. Country names in any of the nine site languages work too.
