Meet Capitals Map, our new daily geography game. The globe spins, slows down and stops with a pin on a mystery capital - and you type its name. Five capitals a day, starting easy and ending expert, and everyone worldwide gets the same five.
It rewards what you know and how fast you know it: quick answers earn bonus points, and hesitation burns the clock.
How it works
- The pin marks a capital city. Start typing and pick it from the suggestions - capitals and famous big cities are mixed together, so trust the pin, not just the list.
- You have 3 lives for the whole run. A wrong guess costs one, but it also helps you: the camera zooms in and reveals country borders, then highlights the country with a distance and direction hint.
- Each attempt allows up to 60 seconds. Answer within 15 for a speed bonus of up to 10 points.
Scores, crowns and bragging rights
Capitals are worth 10 to 30 points by difficulty, plus the speed bonus and 10 points for every life you keep - a perfect run tops out at 180. The day's best score takes the crown on the winners board and a bonus for the site ranking, and the share grid lets you show off your five squares without spoiling the answers.
New capitals at midnight
The five capitals change every day at midnight UTC, the same for every player. Capitals Map joins our other daily geography games - one attempt per day, so make it count.
