How to play Where Am I?

  1. 1

    Look around

Each round drops you on a real street somewhere in the world. Drag the 360° view to look around and zoom in on signs, cars and buildings.

  2. 2

    Walk down the road

Click the arrows on the road, or press W and S, to walk a few steps and see more. On no-moving levels you only get the first look.

  3. 3

    Pin the spot

Open the map, place your pin where you think you are and press Guess. The closer you are, the more points you get: up to 5,000 a round.

  4. 4

    Learn the clues

After each round you see the real place and how you could have told: the side of the road, the line colours, the language, the landscape.

A free street view game

Where Am I? is a free geography game in the style of GeoGuessr. Every round is a real 360° street view, from city centres to country roads, on every continent.

There are 100 levels in 10 chapters, from easy European cities to look-alike countries and the World Master final. Get at least one star to open the next level and collect all 300 stars.

The street views come from Mapillary, where people share their own 360° photos under a free licence. We show them in our own viewer, so the game stays free to play.

Questions

Is Where Am I? free?

Yes. The first 10 levels are open to everyone, levels 11-70 need a free account, and the last 30 levels are part of GeoFun+.

How are points counted?

Each round is worth up to 5,000 points. The further your pin is from the real place, the fewer points you get. Big chapters like the world use a wider scale than Europe, so a guess in the right region still scores.

How do I get stars?

A level gives one star at 35% of its maximum points, two at 60% and three at 80%. One star opens the next level.

What do the level types mean?

On walking levels you can move along the road. On no-moving levels you only get the first view. Timed levels give you 60 seconds a round, and the boss level at the end of every chapter has five rounds.

Is this like GeoGuessr?

It is the same idea: work out where you are from what you see in a street view. Where Am I? is free, has a 100-level journey and teaches you the clues after every round.

Where do the street views come from?

From Mapillary, a free service where people upload their own 360° street photos (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every round credits the person who took it.
