Our new game Country Borders asks one question: which countries share a land border with this one? You get a country on the map and you name its neighbours, one at a time, until you have them all.
Portugal has one. Germany has nine. China and Russia have fourteen each. Knowing where a country is turns out to be very different from knowing what it touches.
How it works
- A country is highlighted on a map of its region, and you are told how many border it.
- Type the neighbours. Autocomplete accepts localized names and common alternates, so "Allemagne", "Alemania" and "Germany" all work.
- You have three lives. A wrong guess costs one, and so does asking for a hint.
- Find them all to clear the level and unlock the next.
A different country every time
Each level is a difficulty, not a fixed country. Lose a level and the retry hands you a different country of the same difficulty - so seeing the answers does not help you next time. The 154 levels climb from a single neighbour all the way to fourteen.
Then it hides the name
From the Hard levels on, you do not get told which country it is. You get the outline alone and have to recognise it before you can start naming what borders it. The country is revealed when the level ends.
Want it harder?
There is a hide-borders switch on the map. Turn it on and the internal boundaries disappear, so you cannot simply count the shapes around the edge. If you like this kind of thing, try Guess the Country by Shape or Travel Route, where you cross the world one land border at a time.
